Professor Samyong Kim retired. He contributed to the development of both the department and the Korean Statistical Society, serving internally as Director of the Office of International Affairs at Chung-Ang University and externally as Vice President of the 27th Korean Statistical Society.

Professor Junyoung Byun joined the department from the Institute of Engineering Research, Seoul National University (Postdoctoral Researcher).

He received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Seoul National University in 2022.

Professor Jooyoung Lee joined the department from the Harvard School of Public Health (Postdoctoral Associate).

She received her Ph.D. in Philosophy of Mathematics in Biostatistics from the University of Waterloo in 2019.

Professor Il-Youp Kwak joined from Samsung Research (Staff Engineer).

He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2014.

Professor Yaeji Lim joined from Pukyong National University (Assistant Professor).

She received her Ph.D. in Statistics from Seoul National University in 2013.

Professor Chang-Soon Park retired. During his career, he served as Dean of Admissions at Chung-Ang University and as the 23rd President of the Korean Statistical Society, contributing greatly to the development of both the department and the society.

Professor Beom Seuk Hwang joined from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (Research Fellow).

He received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from The Ohio State University in 2013.

Former President Yong-Goo Lee retired, having made major contributions both internally and externally: as President of Chung-Ang University and Dean of Admissions, and externally as President of the Korean Classification Society, Director of the International Federation of Classification Society, Chair of the KSS Educational Counseling Committee, Vice President of the Korea Data Mining Society, and Chair of the CRM Council of the Korea Information Industry Association.

Professor Wonkuk Kim joined from the University of South Florida (Assistant Professor).

He received his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2007.

Professor Changwon Lim joined from Loyola University Chicago (Assistant Professor).

He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009.

The Department of Statistics, which was part of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the College of Natural Sciences, was reorganized into the Department of Applied Statistics within the College of Business and Economics. Recruitment started for 30 undergraduate students per year.

Professor Sung-Ho Won joined from Harvard University (Research Fellow).

He received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from Case Western Reserve University in 2008.

Professor Byeongchan Seong joined from POSTECH (Visiting Assistant Professor).

He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from Seoul National University in 2004.

Professor Jaeheon Lee joined from Gwangju University.

He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from KAIST in 1994 and was the third Chung-Ang University alumnus to join the department as faculty.

Professor Yeong-hwa Kim joined from Samsung Financial Research Institute.

He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Florida in 2000 and was the second Chung-Ang University alumnus to join the department as faculty.

Professor Yoon-Jong Lee retired after more than 40 years of service.

During his career, he published 7 books and over 40 papers and reports, and served as advisor to major government bodies such as the Economic Planning Board, Ministry of National Defense, and Statistics Korea.He also served as Auditor of the Korean Statistical Society and as Director of General Affairs at Chung-Ang University, contributing significantly to the development of the department, the society, and the national economy.

Professor Samyong Kim joined from Korea Telecom Research Institute.

He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Georgia in 1998.

The Department of Statistics was merged with the Department of Mathematics, becoming part of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the College of Natural Sciences.Enrollment for 70 undergraduate students began.

Professor Jong-Uk Ham, who made significant contributions to the development of the department, passed away due to illness.

Professor Sang-Gue Park joined from Hannam University.

He became the first Chung-Ang University graduate to join as faculty in the Department of Applied Statistics, after receiving his Ph.D. in Statistics from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

The Statistical Research Center was established, with Professor Yoon-Jong Lee as its first director. The institute contributed to the advancement of statistics and industry–academia collaboration through academic seminars, statistical conferences, and journal publications.

Professor Chan-Kye Park, then President of the Korean Statistical Society, passed away from illness.

Professor Chang-Soon Park joined after earning his Ph.D. in Statistics from Virginia Tech.

The department was renamed the Department of Applied Statistics in the College of Political Science and Economics.

The Ph.D. program in Statistics was established in the Graduate School, marking the beginning of advanced training for professional statisticians.

The master’s program in Statistics was established in the Graduate School, accelerating the training of professional statisticians.

The department was renamed the Department of Statistics in the College of Political Science and Economics.

Professor Yoon-Jong Lee joined the department, becoming the second full-time faculty member and strengthening the foundation for quality education.

Professor Chan-Kye Park, who had been serving in the Department of Economics, was appointed as the first chair of the Department of Statistics. After completing his third year in the Department of Mathematics at Seoul National University in 1952, Professor Park transferred to Chung-Ang University’s Department of Economics, where he graduated. He later received his Ph.D. in Economics at Chung-Ang University and had been serving as a professor in the Department of Economics since 1960.

The department admitted its first 120 students.

The Department of Statistics was founded within the College of Business and Economics. At that time, the college also included Economics, Commerce, Business, and Rural Community Development.
