Retirement of of Professor Samyong Kim
Professor Samyong Kim retired. He contributed to the development of both the department and the Korean Statistical Society, serving internally as Director of the Office of International Affairs at Chung-Ang University and externally as Vice President of the 27th Korean Statistical Society.

Professor Chang-Soon Park retired. During his career, he served as Dean of Admissions at Chung-Ang University and as the 23rd President of the Korean Statistical Society, contributing greatly to the development of both the department and the society.

Retirement of Professor Yong-Goo Lee
Former President Yong-Goo Lee retired, having made major contributions both internally and externally: as President of Chung-Ang University and Dean of Admissions, and externally as President of the Korean Classification Society, Director of the International Federation of Classification Society, Chair of the KSS Educational Counseling Committee, Vice President of the Korea Data Mining Society, and Chair of the CRM Council of the Korea Information Industry Association.

Department Restructuring
The Department of Statistics, which was part of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the College of Natural Sciences, was reorganized into the Department of Applied Statistics within the College of Business and Economics. Recruitment started for 30 undergraduate students per year.

He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Florida in 2000 and was the second Chung-Ang University alumnus to join the department as faculty.

Retirement of Professor Yoon-Jong Lee
Professor Yoon-Jong Lee retired after more than 40 years of service.
During his career, he published 7 books and over 40 papers and reports, and served as advisor to major government bodies such as the Economic Planning Board, Ministry of National Defense, and Statistics Korea.He also served as Auditor of the Korean Statistical Society and as Director of General Affairs at Chung-Ang University, contributing significantly to the development of the department, the society, and the national economy.

Professor Sang-Gue Park joined from Hannam University.
He became the first Chung-Ang University graduate to join as faculty in the Department of Applied Statistics, after receiving his Ph.D. in Statistics from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Establishment of the Statistical Research Center
The Statistical Research Center was established, with Professor Yoon-Jong Lee as its first director. The institute contributed to the advancement of statistics and industry–academia collaboration through academic seminars, statistical conferences, and journal publications.

The department awarded its first bachelor’s degrees to 24 graduates (23 men, 1 woman).

Appointment of Professor Chan-Kye Park
Professor Chan-Kye Park, who had been serving in the Department of Economics, was appointed as the first chair of the Department of Statistics. After completing his third year in the Department of Mathematics at Seoul National University in 1952, Professor Park transferred to Chung-Ang University’s Department of Economics, where he graduated. He later received his Ph.D. in Economics at Chung-Ang University and had been serving as a professor in the Department of Economics since 1960.
The department admitted its first 120 students.

Department Founded
The Department of Statistics was founded within the College of Business and Economics. At that time, the college also included Economics, Commerce, Business, and Rural Community Development.
